Billy Ray Lawrence, 57, of Decatur departed this life on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Billy was born on September 2, 1960, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Otis Sr. and Doris (Currie) Lawrence.
He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1978. Billy enlisted in the United States Army and served two tours of duty. After his first tour, Billy became an employee of Wagner’s Cast Company. Billy then re-enlisted and during his last tour, he courageously served our country during the Gulf War.
Billy returned home to Decatur and began employment with McDonald’s. Billy loved and enjoyed playing sports. He would often relive his glory days on the baseball and football field. Billy would often share the time when he and his baseball team won the little league World Series. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. His favorite pastimes were barbecuing and cooking. Billy got a lot of joy out of feeding his neighbors.
Billy leaves to cherish his loving memories to his father Otis Sr. (Sandra) Lawrence of Decatur; brothers Bobby Lawrence and Leon (Kendra) Lawrence of Decatur, stepbrother Anthony Johnson of Effingham, Il, Stepsister Rena Brewer of Murphysboro, TN; son Brandon Biggs Sr. of Atlanta, GA; daughter Teneshia (Antonio) Clemons of Killeen, TX. Five grandchildren, Brandon Jr. and Bailey Biggs of St. Louis, Mo, Alaysia, Amaria, and Antonio Clemons II of Killeen TX. Aunt Betty Wiggins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other special relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother; brothers Otis Lawrence Jr. and Larry Lawrence; maternal and paternal grandparents and many aunts and uncles.
