Carrie Lou Sillavan Parrish
January 11, 1919 – August 13, 2018
Carrie Lou Sillavan Parrish passed away August 13, 2018 at the age of 99. Carrie was born January 11, 1919 to James and Pietta Sillavan.
After high school, she attended Draugham Business College in Wichita Falls, Tx. , and then went to work for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Co where she was assistant cashier and secretary. She and her husband, W.R. (Dub) Parrish met in Wichita Falls and were married in 1941. Carrie came to Mission, as a bride and lived there for the next 70 years.
Carrie worked for Briggs-Darby, a Pharr contractor, when they were building Moore Field. When her husband was called up for service overseas in World War II, she returned to Wichita Falls where she worked for the War Price and Ration Board.
Several years after the war and three children later, she went to work for Hidalgo County Irrigation District #16, Mission, when the water district was in construction. She worked there for forty plus years as tax assessor collector and office manager until she retired.
In her later years she lived in an independent retirement home in Houston and then moved to San Antonio where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law. She moved to College Station in April 2018 and resided with her son, James and daughter-in-law until her death.
Carrie loved people and had many close friends. She was a member of Conway Avenue Baptist Church in Mission, Texas for many years.
She is survived by 3 children, William R. Parrish III (Pat) of Houston, James A Parrish (Angie) of College Station, Vicki Parrish Cagnoni (Phil) of San Antonio, 8 grandchildren, Andrea Buethe of Germany, Julie Parrish Venegas of McKinney, Ransom Parrish, Cara Parrish Ricks and Tai Parrish Lemaire all of Houston, Daniel, Michael and Andrew Cagnoni all of San Antonio, and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Burial at Laurel Hills in Mission, Texas
Her favorite charity is Wounded Warriors Project.
