BIDDEFORD - Joseph A Goulette, 81, of Willette Street, died Wednesday at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born in Island Pond, VT on January 25, 1921, a son of Arthur and Olivine Pelletier Goulette, and was educated in Underhill, Vermont schools, graduating from Underhill Center Hill High School in 1940. Mr Goulette served with the US Army during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After the war, he worked six years with the Saco Lowell Shops in Biddeford and 28 years with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring as an electrician in 1980. After retirement, he worked five years with the Journal Tribune. He was a member of the Biddeford VFW, DAV, and past president of AMVETs, serving as committee chairman for 15 years, and a life member and past president for eight years as an official for youth athletic programs. He was a member of St Mary's Church, where he was very active as a server, reader and Eucharistic minister. Surviving are three sons, Stephen of Lady Lake, FL, Michael of Alfred and Joseph of Germantown, MD; a daughter, Sally (Mrs Fred) Hersom of Bath; his companion of 22 years, Joanne M Cote of Biddeford; three sisters, Emma Gunther of Littleton, NH, Olivine Tanguay and Alice Mahar, both of Biddeford; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
