Alberta Poole Eaton, 94, went home to be with her Lord on November 10, 2016 at North Greenville Hospital in Travelers Rest, SC.
Alberta was born Pearle Matthews on November 25, 1921 in Ithaca, NY to Arthur C. Matthews & Alice M. McGinnis. Her mother, Alice, died 3 days later. Her father, Arthur, allowed Pearle to be adopted by Bert L. & Bessie E. Poole when she was 17 days old. Her name was changed to Alberta Nettie Poole. Alberta is predeceased by her husband Maurice Raymond Eaton, son Eugene Maurice Eaton, brother Art Matthews, adoptive brother Harry Rodgers and adoptive sister Louise Heath. Those surviving are son Bert Earnest Eaton and two daughter-in laws Shirley M. Eaton and Rhonda Tyson Eaton. Grandchildren include Michael Scott Eaton, Kelly Anne Pittman, Debbie Marie Flack, Louise Marie Smith, Sandra Jean Landers, Roy Eugene Eaton, Lori Grover, David Eric Meddaugh, and Terri Lee Meddaugh, numerous great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.
Alberta attended Bell Sherman Elementary School and Ithaca High School. She worked at Cornell University as a Dorm Maid and Ridley’s Book Bindery before becoming a full-time homemaker. Alberta was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she had been a member since she was a teenager.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Herson-Wagner Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 11:00-12:00. Funeral service will be at 12:00 PM at the Chapel of Herson-Wagner. Burial will be at Frear Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations, in her memory, may be made to Good Samaritan Baptist Mission.
