John Chamblin, a farmer, enlisted in Company "B" of the Independent Loudoun Virginia Rangers (USA) at Harpers Ferry on August 14,1863, and was mustered into service at Point of Rocks, Md. on Jan. 26, 1864. He was mustered out with the rest of his unit on May 31, 1865, at Bolivar, near Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

After the war he lived in Neersville, Loudoun County, Va., until 1877, when he moved to Missouri.

He married Girtie Imogene Jacobs on Aug. 3, 1870 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, Md. Their children were:
Sheridan b. 15 Dec 1871;
Clifton b. 12 Nov 1873;
Seton Odell b. 31 Oct 1879 or 1878.
