Richard Austin Flournoy was the second son born to Archibald Skaggs Flournoy, a native of Kentucky and Cynthia Elizabeth Wilkerson, a native of South Carolina. Born on the 5th of December of 1858 in Victoria County, Texas, Dick lived there until the Flournoy family moved to Brazoria County in the Fall of 1860. In 1875 the family moved to Morales, Jackson County, Texas and on the 25th of December of 1884 Dick married Mary Faught. She died in childbirth, as did the babe, a year or so after their marriage. Dick remained a widower for several years until on the 6th of July of 1890 he married Leota McNite Moore in Jackson County, Texas. Leota McNite Moore, a native of Arkansas, was the daughter of Henry Moore and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Horton. Dick and Ota were the parents of thirteen children: Emma Launa, Milam Miner, Willie Pike, Vera Elizabeth, Henry Presley, Archie Lofton, Daniel Vivian, Eva Walcy, Ella Celestia, Guy Austin, Maple Richard, Kenoth Othello and Charnel Robert. In the late 1930s, Dick and Ota moved to Nixon, Gonzales County, Texas where Dick died on the 1st of September of 1943 and was buried in the Nixon Cemetery. At the time of his death, he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Nixon, Texas.
