Funeral services for Frank R Vance, 90, of Muscatine, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Spangler United Methodist Church, north of Muscatine. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery, Joy.
The Riley Funeral Home in Muscatine is in charge of arrangements.
Mr Vance died at 11:55 Monday night, Oct 28, in Muscatine General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
The oldest of seven children of James B & Rebecca Carnagay Vance, he was born July 24, 1884, near Seaton. He homesteaded with his parents in Colorado and Nebraska before returning to Mercer County, where he attended Viola schools and was a graduate of Viola High School and Geneseo School of Business.
He was a farmer and in 1929 moved to Iowa, where he farmed in Lake Township. He retired several years ago. Mr Vance was a member of Spangler United Methodist Church.
In 1907, he was married to Edna Brown and she preceded him in death in 1912. He later married Ethel E Braucht in 1914, who also preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Mort E Vance, Aledo; James B Vance, Muscatine, and Robert R Vance, Rosemont, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs L.M. (Ruth) Britton, Muscatine, and Mrs Mildred Foster, Strawberry Point, Ia.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-granchildren, and two sisters, Mrs Harl (Edna) Finch and Mrs Violet Bear, both of Santa Barbara, Calif.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wives, were two brothers, two sisters, his parents, and two infant children.
