Charles was the son of Samuel Dexter Sawin and Caroline E. Simonds.

On Oct 14, 1885 in Boston, MA he married Katharine F. Cole, daughter of Thomas Morton Cole and Sarah Abby Harrub.

They had a daughter, Katharine Morton, in Jun 1887.

His wife, Katharine, died a month after their daughter was born.

On May 31, 1893 in Boston, MA he married Mabel Alexander Beattie, daughter of Alexander Mitchell Beattie and Celestia Congdon. Her father was a Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, which he received in 1894.

They didn't have any children but she raised his daughter Katharine.

Charles was a Physician. They lived at 390 Broadway in Somerville, MA where he also had his Doctor's office.

He died in the ambulance in Pemberton Square, Boston on the way to the hospital.

He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery on Feb 11, 1918.
