Woodlawn Cemetery, Crematory and Mausoleum, is the earlier of two cemeteries in Everett. Privately owned, it was laid out in 1850 in the fashionable tradition of rural cemeteries of which Mount Auburn in Cambridge was the first. Woodlawn was the largest of this type of cemetery north of Boston; its original 100 acres were later enlarged with the purchase of the former Corbett Farm, bringing the total area to 153 acres. Twenty-one of these acres were later sold to the City for a public park, following a bitter battle concerning whether the cemetery's land should be taxed. Since few of Woodlawn's interments in the 19th century were Everett residents, relations between the cemetery corporation and the city were frequently strained.

The privately owned and operated Woodlawn Cemetery was the only burial ground in Everett from 1850 - 1890. (The Glenwood Cemetery was developed in 1890 to its north.) In 1983 the Woodlawn Cemetery had an interment rate of 100 burials a month and demand for space was at a premium. Today there are over 130,000 interments.

Also on the property is the Versailles Community Mausoleum. The Versailles Mausoleum is a two-story mausoleum offering a variety of memorialization options that will accommodate most above ground memorial needs.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as EVR.800 Woodlawn Cemetery.
