Rodney Lewis Dahl, age 77, passed away on January 3, 2013 in his sleep after a valiant battle with cancer - his third. He died peacefully at home, holding hands with his beloved wife. Rodney was born on July 3, 1935 to Violet and Lewis Dahl and raised in Midvale, Utah. He married the love of his life, Joyce Milne, on November 20, 1959. Together they have three children, whom they raised in Cottonwood Heights. Service to his community was a fundamental part of Rodney's life. He served for eight years on the Jordan School District Board of Education, and several years on the State Board of Education. Many years were also spent on other education boards and committees, as well as water improvement districts in Utah. Professionally Rodney worked as a civil engineer and consultant, working many years as the general manager of Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility. There he was principally responsible for its design, start-up and subsequent operation. After his retirement, Rodney and his wife bought and managed a travel agency, providing many fun family vacations. Europe, San Diego, San Francisco and Jackson Hole were some of his favorite places to be. Many happy days were also spent driving Joyce around in their bright red Corvette convertible. In addition to making a positive difference in the lives of those around him, the true love of Rodney's life is his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and amazing grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Joyce; his son, Michael (Jodi) Dahl; daughter, Kimberly (Pat) Isom; daughter, Jennifer Dahl; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brother, Rulon; and sister, Maureen. Preceded in death by his parents and infant sister. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8th at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Union 3rd Ward, 1535 E. Creek Road, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, Utah, on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. www.goffmortuary.com
