Rites Held For Port Barre Man

PORT BARRE — Funeral services for John Watts Meriwether, 66, of Port Barre, were held at 9 a. m. today at St. Landry Catholic Church In Opelousas. Burial was in Myrtle Grove cemetery under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home of Opelousas.

Meriwether died at 4:30 p. m. Sunday at Lafayette General Hospital. He had been ill for two months.

A NATIVE of Snowden, Ala., he came to Port Barre 40 years ago. He was a pipe line company supervisor.

Meriwether was a member and past grand knight of Knight of Columbus Council 3496 of Port Barre.

He is survived by his widow, the former Anna Morris of Port Barre; two sons, John R. Meriwether of Lafayette and William Meriwether of Port Barre; and one daughter. Mrs. Mathews Michael of Bakersfleld, Calif.

ALSO surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Katie Meriwether of Beaumont, Tex.; one half-brother, Francis Meriwether of Beaumont; two half-sisters, Mrs. Katherine Kile of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Louis Earhart of Kenmore, N. Y.; and five grandchildren.
