Another of the early settlers of the community passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. Torrance, early on Thursday morning last, in the person of Simon Kolb. Deceased was born in Waterloo county, Ontario, near Kitchener, on January 13th, 1839, hence he was in his eighty-fourth year. In 1878 he emigrated to the state of Kansas with the hope of finding relief from the asthma from which he suffered all his life. In the year 1893 he came to Wetaskiwin district and located on a homestead near Duhamel, where he farmed until 1902, when he moved with his family to the then village of Wetaskiwin. Since that time he has been an esteemed resident here.
He leaves a wife and seven children namely, Mrs. E.E. Chandler, Mrs. A. Torrance and Charles Kolb, all of Wetaskiwin; Mrs. J. Hedman and Mrs. A.R. Dancey, in Seattle, Wash., Mrs. W.L. Siebert in Zurich, Ont., and Chester in Illinois.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, service being conducted by Rev. W.H. Irwin. The interment was in the Wetaskiwin cemetery, the pall-bearers being Messrs. Geo. D. Wallace, Wm. McCallum, D. MacEachern, Geo. H. Robinson, Alex Cummings and J.F. Fowler.
