Death Summons Evert M. Emde
Following a severe illness of several months' duration, the death of Evert Emde, prominent farmer and stock raiser, occurred at his home east of town Monday night at 10:40. For the past two months he had been a patient at Excelsior Springs, where he went in the hope of benefiting his condition, but in spite of the best medical aid, he grew steadily worse until the end. He was aged 50 years, nine months, and one day.

It has been known for some time that his condition was critical with but little chance for his recovery, and for the past month Mrs. Emde has been with him constantly. On Friday of last week he became much worse, and his children were summoned, and they went immediately to his bedside. He was still able to recognize them when they arrived but soon afterwards lapsed into a coma from which he never completely rallied. Under the care of a special nurse he was brought back to his home Saturday evening, making the trip in Bidwell's ambulance. Although he was unable to speak he gave evidence that he realized that he was home and was accordingly made happy. His death was due to high blood pressure and complications.

Evert M., oldest son of Charles and Maria (Thurman) Emde, was born on a farm northeast of Wellman where he grew to manhood. He attended Daytonville school in the days when that institution was a two-room school with advanced grades and
business college.

On April 7, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Lauretta King who survives him. Three children were born to them, Norma, Boyd, and Elma, all of whom are living at home. He was a kind, loving husband and father, and gave his children every advantage possible.

Except for two years passed on a farm near Kinross following his marriage, his entire life has been spent on the farm where he died, near the place of his birth. In his youth he chose the occupation of a farmer in which he was successful and progressive. He was widely known throughout southeastern Iowa as a successful raiser of Poland-China hogs.

Besides his bereaved wife and children, he is survived by his mother , Mrs. Maria Emde of Wellman; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Gardner of South English and Mrs. Beulah Hasty of Wellman; two brothers, Morton of West Chester, and Carl of Wellman. His father preceded him in death in March 1935; and one brother, Burl, a World War soldier, passed away in 1919. He also leaves a large circle of friends by whom, he was well liked for his genial, friendly qualities.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at his late home conducted by Rev. Paul Hann. Interment will be made in the Wassonville cemetery.
