Shirley May Carter, 83 of Columbia, Missouri passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Feb 3, 1935, to the late Esther Pryor and Tracy Vest. Shirley graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Missouri. She married the love of her life, Ernest H. Carter on July 17, 1954.

Shirley was a beloved member of the family, and all of those who had an opportunity to meet her; her incredible mind was only rivalled by her incredible heart and warmth. Shirley loved genealogy, spending time with her family, and had a wonderful smile that could light up any room.

Shirley is survived by her husband Ernest H. Carter who had four children; Kay Carter, of Columbia, Missouri, Laurie Carter of Columbia, Missouri who preceded her in death, David and his wife Sara Carter, of Houston, TX; and Bruce and his wife Donna Carter, of Columbia, Missouri. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held at the Nilson Funeral home in Columbia, Missouri July 18, 2018.
