John Leonard Sandstrom
1939 - 2018

Early Life: John was born November 27, 1939, in Eureka, Utah, to Alonzo August and VeRue Tullis Sandstrom. He loved his upbringing there and continued, up until last weekend, to hike the Tintic hills searching for the perfect Christmas tree or pine nut harvest. John graduated from Tintic High School in 1957.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: He began attending Brigham Young University, commuting daily from Eureka. He soon met the love of his life, Judy Brown; they were sealed for time and all eternity on June 29, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from BYU in 1972. Over 30 years of his career was spent in Salt Lake City at Terra Tek. John was an avid BYU fan and enjoyed every sport; often attending games around the country supporting his Cougs. One of his favorite places to be was Lake Powell on the houseboat, and he wanted to share that adventure with everyone he knew. He loved the Utah outdoors and its natural beauty. John and Judy served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the first one to Nauvoo and the second to Ensign Ranch in Washington. John’s testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ was in the way he lived his life. A man of few words, but noble in action and character. His greatest love and joy in life was his family. John Leonard Sandstrom, beloved husband, great dad, wonderful grandpa, mentor and friend, passed away unexpectedly in Provo, Utah, on Monday, August 20, 2018. He was at home with his wife and sweetheart of 57 years by his side. His heart and body were literally worn out in the service of others. He was 78.
Survived By: His wife, Judy; children: Mike and Tammy Sandstrom, Sherry and Mike Roberts, Debbie and Tyler Kimball, Rory and Karen Sandstrom; 14 grandchildren; his brother, Jerry (LeeAnn) Sandstrom; and a sister, Charlene (Dennis) Stutz.
Preceded In Death By: His parents, in-laws, brother, David; sister, Marguerite; and granddaughter, Lindsay.
