James Garrett Townsen married Mary Agnes Mitchell in Carroll County, Tennessee on Mar 1, 1832. They had 11 children there. James was manager of the poorhouse in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee, in 1860. In addition to his own family, he was responsible for 2 old women, and 5 mothers with 7 dependent children. He died intestate on Sept. 17, 1860, and is buried in Tennessee. His grave there had not been located. This memorial will serve as a cenotaph to his memory.
