South Jordan, UT - The world has lost a wonderful, kind, loving mother, wife and friend. Ercel Nye passed away August 16, 2018 just a few days before her 93 birthday. She was born August 28th 1925 in Duchesne, Utah to Jerry Merkley and Evinda Long Merkley. Ercel was raised on a farm she loved all the animals from her pet pig to Old Blue her horse that she rode to school every day. Ercel graduated from Duchesne High School in 1944. She was a hard worker and loved challenges. During World War II, at 18 years old, she went to Hill Airforce Base to help work on the planes. When the war was over she went to school and became a beautician. She met many people while cutting hair that became her cherished friends. She then married her high school sweetheart Bud Nye and they were married for 64 years. She loved working with the children in the school lunch program and did that for many years. Ercel loved sports and excelled in everything she did. She loved to figure skate and competed in figure skating competitions. She was an excellent swimmer. At the age of 50 she learned how to ski and was up there enjoying the slopes 4 times a week for years. Ercel was a talented, self-taught painter. She has done some beautiful artwork in her life. Ercel is preceded in death by: her parents, her loving husband Bud; siblings, Bill, Eva, Mary and Roland. She is survived by children; Floyd (Karla); Ann Maestas (Lorenzo), Sharon Sage. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, 12:00 PM with a viewing 2 hours prior (10:00 AM) at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal BLVD, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
