Amos Coolidge Page was born on March 1, 1926 in Crucifer, Tennessee. He passed away peacefully on August 16, 2018 in Jackson, Tennessee. He is survived by Lavelle Rogers Page, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 71 ½ years, his three children and their spouses; James Randall Page and wife, Lynn, Justice Roger Amos Page and wife, Carol, daughter Lisa Page Reyes and husband, Nick; grandchildren, Allison Leigh Page Quinteros (Cesar), Justin Amos Page (Hannah) and Ethan Rogers Page (Whitney): great-grandchildren, Cynthia Grace Quinteros, William Amos Page, James Alexander Quinteros, Sophia Clare Quinteros, Samuel Curtis Page, and Margaret Jane Page. He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law, Catherine Frye, and two step-grandsons, Dwight McCoy Chambers and Davis McCoy Chambers. Other survivors are his brother, Robert Page and wife Billie Jean Page, sisters-in-law, Ilene Page and Jeanette Page and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lessie Page, his beloved granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Page, his three brothers, Aucie "Buster" Page, Charles (Mary Nell) Page, and Kenneth Page, and his two sisters, Ocie Mae (Walter) Hancock and Nettie (Albert Jay) Jones.
During World War II, Mr. Page served in the 25th Division, 35th Infantry, Company K, for more than two years. He advanced from private to tech sergeant. He was also a platoon leader and engaged in fierce fighting in Luzon, Philippines. He also spent ten months in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, the Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He received an Honorable Discharge and was very proud that he was recommended for further military service.
He was a man of great faith and there is no doubt he is spending eternity in heaven. For more than 50 years, he was a member of Mifflin Baptist Church and served for many of those years as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, as Sunday School Superintendent, and as a Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Page was a farmer all of his life. He and his big brother, Buster, spent many summers logging in the Luray, Huron and Mifflin areas. He loved to hunt and fish with his brothers, children, nephews and many friends. He and Lavelle were ardent baseball fans and faithfully followed the Atlanta Braves, relishing the team’s most recent wins while he recovered from hip surgery. Although his children are fans of other baseball teams (St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants), his family is glad that the Braves are winning this year.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2018, in the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Home . Interment will follow in Mifflin Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dr. Tommy Page, Nick Reyes, Terry Page, Charlie Ray Hancock, Ethan Page and Justin Page. Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Butler, Jeff Butler, Charles Dyer, Pat Connor, Dewayne Williams, Jerry Rogers and Eugene Dyer.
