Charlotte Elizabeth Young Skinner
Born Friday, November 13, 1942 to William A. Young and Ethel Bridges Young from Calhoun City, MS. She leaves behind her husband of 56 years, John (J.T.) Skinner, Jr., of Gadsden, AL; three daughters: Sonya Skinner (Trussville, AL); Amy Skinner Edmondson (Paul) of Vardaman, MS; Tara Skinner Grizzard (Shane) of Southside, AL; six grandchildren: Ashley Edmondson Hughes, Payton Edmondson, Kenneth Walls, Elizabeth Grizzard, Emma Grizzard, and Everett Grizzard; and one great-grandson, Sawyer Hughes. In addition, she leaves behind one brother, Robert (Bob) Young and wife, Jill, of Bartlett, TN; two nieces, Lauren Young Warrick (Nick) and Kaitlyn Longstreth (Caleb); great-nephew, Jackson Warrick and great-niece, Jillian Warrick.
She earned an elementary education degree from Mississippi State University. She taught school for 30 years in Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Southside, AL. She was an exceptional musician. She played the piano and organ from high school until she lost the majority of her eyesight due to Macular Degeneration. She was a Majorette and Drum Major in high school. She taught piano to children throughout her life. She enjoyed teaching handbell and children's choirs in church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her legacy lives on thru her children and grandchildren, especially in music through her daughter, Sonya (clarinet, piano); grandson, Payton (piano), and granddaughter, Elizabeth (flute, piccolo).
Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City, MS is conducting the funeral arrangements. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 on Saturday, August 18,2018 in the Vardaman Cemetery in Vardaman, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
