Maxine Pace Mickelson passed away July 30, 2001 in Glendale, Arizona. She was born November 10, 1912 in Cedar City, Utah. She was the eighth of nine children born to John Granville and Ellen (Nellie) Thornton Pace.
She was raised in Cedar City going from elementay to high School. Then on to college when it was called the B.A. of Southern Utah. She went into the field of education and taught school while still in Cedar. She also taught some in Parowan, Utah
She Married Lewis Meeks Mickelson from Parowan, Utah on June 4th, 1934. They had 2 daughters,Hattie Lu and Tonya.
The summer of 1955 saw them moving to Henderson, Nevada where she would teach school, the 2nd grade at Park Village Elementary School untill her retirement because of health reasons in 1973. She continue to live in Henderson where she was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In 1976, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to be near her family. While living there she went on a mission for the church going to the Anaheim, California area.
She has lived in Kingman, Arizona; St George, Utah and Altus, Oklahoma. Since 1997 she has lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Avondale, Arizona. She has held numerous callings both on the ward and stake level throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, by Lewis Meeks Mickelson, and one daughter Hattle Lu Mickelson Meyer Simmons.
She is survived by one daughter, Tonya Mickelson Messerschmidt (Gordon), two sons-in-law Gordon Messerschmidt, and Doug Simmons, Four grandchildren, Skip (Cora Richhard) Meyer of Kingman, Arizona; Jeff (Maida Yelvington) Meyer Of Las Vegas, Nevada; Eric (Allison Wantz) Messerschmidt of Goodyear, Arizona; and Shari (Craig) Hayden of Sandy, Utah; eight great-grandchildren, Jason Richhard of Kingman Arizona, Aurelia Jo Bradley and(Jeff),Irena Meyer of Chandler Arizona, Tyler Messerschmidt., Ashley Messerschmidt of Goodyear Arizona, Tanner Hayden, Taylor Hayden, Kenyon Hayden of Sandy, Utah and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday 3rd of August 2001 at 11:00a.m. at the Cedar City Cemenary.
