John Brooks, one of the oldest pioneers of Jess
Valley, this county, committed suicide at his home
last Wednesday, by shooting himself in the head
with a rifle. Mr. Brooks was 83 years of age at the
time of the tragedy, and had about lost his mind.
The funeral took place from the Congregational
Church last Wednesday, January 22, 1913, at 3 p.m.
Mr. Brooks was one of the most respected pioneers
of this county and leaves to mourn his loss four
sons and four daughters besides a large number of
old friends. Space prevents us from giving a more
detailed account of the tragedy.
