Zenna E. Higgins, 98, a 62-year resident of Palo Alto, died May 17. A native of Washington, she graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla and received training as a teacher.
After moving to Palo Alto she held various jobs cooking, bookkeeping, and doing secretarial work.
She retired in 1964 from her secretarial position with Stanford University Women's Athletic Department.
She was actively involved in the community after her retirement and gave her services to the Downtown Children's Center, the Parent's Nursery School, Mid-Peninsula YWCA, the Palo Alto Historical Society, and the Senior Center of Palo Alto.
She was also a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church, AAUW writers group, North County Friendly Visitor's Service, Palo Alto Area Red Cross, Palo Alto Task Force on Aging, La Comida Nutrition Program, the Toyon Chapter of Chaparral Poets, and the Palo Alto Women's Club.
She is survived by a daughter, a brother, a sister, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held May 21 at 2 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church at the corner of Hamilton and Waverley in Palo Alto. Contributions may be sent to the church at 555 Waverley St., Palo Alto, CA 94306.
