She was born at Shelby Hospital to the late Clayton Cline Hord and J.L. Hord, Jr.
She graduated from Shelby High School and made her debut into society. She was a graduate of the Shelby School of Nursing in 1954. She married Thomas A. Tate, September 11, 1954 and they moved to Boone, NC. She went to work at Watauga County Hospital. From there the family moved to Shelby where she went to work for Drs. Hamrick, Cloninger, and Bolin. Janet was a dedicated member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. Her greatest legacy was her love for her family and her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jesse Lee Hord, III and son, Thomas A. "Tommy" Tate, Jr.
