John Thompson was born on 11 Nov 1897 in Mountain Station Creek, Eukey, Queensland, Australia as the first child of William Pearson Thompson and Elizabeth "Eliza" Meharg. He had twelve siblings, namely: Samuel, Sarah, William, Violet, Elizabeth, Elsie, Matthew, Kathleen, Walter, Doris, Emma, and Joyce. He died on 28 Apr 1971 in Victoria, Australia. When he was 23, he married Jane Ingle Bone,daughter of William Moore Bone and Anne Jane Young, on 17 Oct 1921 in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Australia.

John Thompson was cremated on 03 May 1971 in Springvale South, Victoria, Australia (Springvale Botanical Cemetery and Crematorium) and the remains were collected and his headstone can be found in Stanthorpe cemetery, Section 8, Row H, Grave 51.
