Charles grew up in the Marietta, Washington County, area, where he had four brothers and sisters. None of the children in the family, however, left descendants.
His death record helpfully pinpointed the cemetery of burial.
The death record cited just the 1879 birth year, but that coincides with the mix of records on his birth: His WW1 registration lists his birth as 11 Oct. 1879, but his home county's birth record lists his birth as 27 September that year. Also confusing but yet showing right family association overall: The Washington County birth record at the probate court listed his father as L.W. (correct for the Ludwig/Louis Wilhelm it was) but the probate record indexes his mother as "Maggie BRANNON," when she actually was Maggie BRAUN. But those details, even while slight off, in mixture also help show this is the overall right association for this son Charles Foster of Marietta and the Charles buried in Canton's Hillcrest. Additionally, the obituary for this Charles's brother Walter in Marietta cited is brother Charles as living in Canton at the time of Walter's death.
According to an 1910 census, while Charles was still in Washington County, he and his brother Walter were both laborers in the oil business. His death record in Canton called him unemployed. That status also seems to match the nature of Hillcrest Cemetery as a burial place for the indigent, either from the local county home or otherwise.
Charles' first cousin, Edward Schlaubach, son of Charles's aunt Louisa Smith Schlaubach, also is buried in Canton, in West Lawn Cemetery: # 119478777
