OMER SMITH
(1942-1999)
Omer Smith, 56, of Tollesboro (Ky.) Route 1, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at a Maysville, Ky., hospital.
He was born Nov. 1, 1942, in Harris, Ky., a son of the late George W. Smith and Emma Killen Smith. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran and served in the Army 10 years. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Lewis County Chapter and was a retired crane operator for Sandusky Steel Corporation.
Surviving are his wife, Rose McAuliff Smith; four sons, Jeffrey Smith of Reno, Nev., Mark Smith of Flemingsburg, George Smith of Tollesboro, Ky. and Curtis Smith, at home; one brother, Claude Smith of Silver Grove, Ky; two sisters, Beatrice Fetters and Wilma Bloomfield, both of Vanceburg, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one brother, Clayton Smith; and two sisters, Thelma McCleese and Julia Bieu.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, with the Rev. Nelson Evans officiating, and interment in Nolan Cemetery, with military graveside rites by James L. Flannery Post American Legion.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
