John Howard, 72, of 2059 Harlans Crossroads, Tompkinsville, died Jan. 7, 2004 at his home.
He was a sawyer for James Ritter Lumber Co. and a member of the Athens Baptist Church.
Born in Monroe County on June 24, 1931, he was a son of the late Alvy and Delphie (Rich) Howard and the husband of Dean (Bartley) Howard, who survives. They were married June 7, 1952 in Lafayette, Tenn.
Other than his wife, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jerry Casteel, Tompkinsville; a brother, Cleston Howard, Indianapolis, Ind.; five sisters, Dorothy Keys and Juanita Scott, both of Tompkinsville, and Talega Doolin, Sylvia Walters and Nina Downing, all of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Tammy Gibson, Kelly Casteel and Lori Moore, and three great-grandchildren, Brent Moore, Cassy Hutcherson and Deanna Parsley.
Four brothers, James, Bobby, Jerry and Tim Howard, and a sister, Saretha Curtis, all preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with Bro. Paul Strong and Bro. Rodney Deckard officiating. Burial was at the Harlans Crossroads Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Clay Cottongim, Dave Curry, Junior Deckard, Claudie Jenkins, Fred Tilman and Dwayne Walters.
