Janelda “Nell” Lee Henderson, 82, of Freeport, Texas went to meet her father on August 6, 2018. Janelda is survived by her children, son, Dennis (Elizabeth) Henderson of Brazoria; daughter, Kendal Denise (Charles) Rylander; grand-daughters, Courtney Townsend of Freeport, Meagan McDaniel of Fort Worth, Kristin McDaniel of Austin, and Jessica Henderson of Kerrville; great-grandchildren include Bud Townsend and Zoe Townsend of Freeport. Janelda is preceded in death by her parents, Hubbard and Minnie Chambers, and grandson, Eric Henderson. Janelda was born on May 29, 1936 in Grapeland, Texas. When she was a very young girl, her family relocated to the Gulf Coast and the small town of Matagorda became home. She graduated from Bay City High Scholl and attended Business College in Houston, Texas. In 1965, she joined the Brazos Pilots Association where she facilitated shipping orders, organized the movement of ships along the various water ways, and managed the office duties and tasks. Janelda took much pride in working with this organization and enjoyed the close loving relationship with the co-workers and their families. Janelda was affiliated with this Association for over fifty years. She was referred to as the “Heart of the Brazos Pilots”. Janelda was a strong woman who faced the challenges in life with faith in the Lord and quiet determination rarely seen. She was a person who loved family and friends as much as anyone could. Janelda enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and spent much time being there for people in time of need and listening to them. She was a person who would take time for others and was quick to offer her assistance to make things better. Janelda loved her role as mother and grandmother and added much to the lives she touched. She will be missed greatly. Memorials can be made in Janelda’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Freeport or the Brazoria County SPCA. A Celebration of Janelda’s Life will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute. The visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be held at the Matagorda Cemetery next to her beloved parents.
