Rachel Ellis was a daughter of Benjamin Ellis (1741-1796) and Rachel Presnell (1744-1812), having been born in 1770 in Old Tryon Creek (what is now Warren County) North Carolina. Her older sister, Mary Ellis (1762-1849), was the 2nd wife of Alexander Davidson (1744-1817). Rachel married John Davidson (1770-1844), the son of Alexander and his first wife, Anna Bridges. John and Rachel married on April 28, 1785, in Tryon, North Carolina, and had at least nine children.

Their first child, Mary, born c1787, was born in Rutherford Co., North Carolina.

The family then moved to Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky, which is where eight children were born to them. They were:

Hezekiah, b. Feb 1, 1789

James Hardison, b. Aug 30, 1792

John Jr., b. 1794

Sarah "Sally", b. Mar 26, 1800

Jacob Ellis, b. Oct 31, 1801

Johnathan, b. c1802 and

Willis Presnell, b. Jun 30, 1805.

The family's final move was to Greene County, Illinois where they lived on a farm they named Green Hill Farm. Ellis was bequeathed the farm when his father died on December 6, 1844. He was buried on the farm on December 10, 1844. Rachel died within two years, some time in 1846. She was buried by her husband on the family's homestead. Other family members buried there are their son, Willis Presnell Davidson, Sr. who died in 1851, his wife, Elizabeth Lovelace, who died in 1874, and John Davidson, Jr. who died Sep 10, 1838. May they all Rest in Peace.
