Mr. Ortego was a retired supervisor of Columbia Carbon and a retired cattle farmer. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lone Pine.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda O'Neal; his parents, Carrie and Edmond Ortego; a granddaughter, Monica Rasmussen; and a great-grandson, Alex Barron.

He was survived by his wife, Katie Carson Ortego of Lone Pine; one son, Russell Ortego of Lafayette; three daughters, Gail Aymond and Hope Rasmussen of Lone Pine and Masel Socia of Kincaid;
14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
