Carrol was the son of J.E. and Werdna Holt Stansell and the husband of Lena Ruth Stansell. Carol Stansell was born in Scranton, Texas, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Lena Ruth Green in 1945 in Nimrod, Texas, and worked as an oilfield tool pusher in West Texas. He later was a bookkeeper and was a rancher. He was a Baptist deacon and was a member of Eastland First Baptist Church. Survivors included his wife, Lena, of Cisco; one son, Charles Duane Stansell of Brownwood; three daughters, Caroline Ruth Wadzeck of Dayton, Texas, Connie Rae Morgan of Bedford and Chere Rene Permenter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Clyde Stansell of Eastland; and eight grandchildren.
