Linda Franklin passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018. She was 75. Linda was born Feb. 21, 1943, in Lamesa, Texas, to Retha and Mervin Penn. She was the oldest of three.

Her father was in the U.S. Navy, and they lived in many places during her childhood, including Newfoundland, and in Okinawa, Japan, where she graduated from high school in 1960. As a young adult, she worked as a clerk typist for the Army.

On May 19, 1967, she married the love of her life, Forrest Franklin. Forrest had four children. He was an Army officer and they traveled to many places while he was on active duty. She played an active role in raising her two oldest stepsons, particularly when Forrest was deployed to Vietnam and Korea. Later, Linda and Forrest had one daughter, Becca, born in 1975.

Linda was very actively involved in the Officers Wives Clubs every place they were stationed. She was an incredible wife and mother, mother in law. She always made the best of every situation. She was the Girl Scout leader, the faithful chaperon, and the back-stage mom — whatever her family needed her to be.

She enjoyed painting, reading, sewing and collecting pretty things, and enjoyed the many places that the military life brought them to. She especially enjoyed their time in San Francisco and in Germany. She was a skeet shooter, a hunter and a bowler. She embraced every activity that Forrest enjoyed.

In 1985, Forrest retired and they moved to Lewiston into the home they designed and built together. There they lived for many years.

When Forrest passed away in 2002, she was lost without him, but took that time to pursue a college degree, something she always wanted to do but had not had the opportunity. During her last 20 years she spent most of her time with her grandchildren.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; and her father, Mervin. She is survived by her mother, of Vacaville, CA; brothers; daughter and son in law of Clarkston, WA; step-children who live in Michigan, Texas, Oregon and North Dakota; grandchildren who live in Arizona, Michigan, North Dakota, Texas, Oregon and Washington; as well as a great many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at the chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston.
