James William Baxley, Sr., age 94, of Hoover, AL, passed away Saturday morning, July 28, 2018.

He was born on July 8, 1924 in Clanton, Alabama.

Mr. Baxley served our country in WWII. He was a businessman and founder of Birmingham Packaging Company. He was an avid outdoorsman, and his life was centered around family and church. He was a founding and lifelong member of Shades Mountain Church of Christ. He will be extremely missed by all of his family and friends. Mr. Baxley was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Martha Stokes Baxley (1925-2011) whom he married on June 10th, 1946 in Shelby County, Alabama. Also by his his parents, Archibald B. Baxley (1888-1968) and Jewell Dobbs Baxley (1899-1989); and one sister, Mary Louise Baxley Capps.

Survivors include Mr. Baxley's daughter, Betsy Ann Parker (Henry Allen); two sons, James William Baxley, Jr. (Jennifer) and Timothy Charles Baxley (Victoria); grandchildren, Jaime Baxley, Melissa Dempsey (Michael), Cassie Thomas (Scott), Mallory Baxley; Meredith Porter (Matthew), Jake Baxley, and Trey Baxley; five great-grandchildren, John Benton Porter, Hunter Allen, Ava Dempsey, Savannah Dempsey, and Jaxon Dempsey; and one brother, Charles Earl Baxley (Faye).

The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The private graveside service will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
