Burl Johnson, age 76, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 9:21 PM – Thursday, July 26, 2018, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Burl's life will be held at 11:00 AM – Thursday, August 2, 2018, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Rodney Houser officiating. Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery in rural Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the funeral home. Burl was born on January 29, 1942, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Neal Cass and Esther (Clagg) Johnson. He married Mary Housh on February 16, 1972, in Effingham, Illinois, and she survives.
Burl worked at HW Clark and Stevens Industries for several years. He also worked as a carpenter.
Burl enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal's fan.
