Verna Malmay Brewer

SHREVEPORT, LA Funeral services for Verna Malmay Brewer, 86, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father Phil Michiels. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a vigil at … p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel.

Verna was born on July 24, 1925 in Noble, LA to John and Margaret Malmay. She passed away on October 8, 2011 in Shreveport. Verna was a graduate of Noble High School in 1948. Upon graduation, she moved to Shreveport and worked as a sales clerk. She met and married her husband, Jimmy, in Shreveport in 1957. After spending 20 years traveling with her husband in the Air Force, she made her home in Shreveport. She was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as Treasurer. Verna enjoyed being a wife and mother. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and spending time with her extensive family.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Malmay; brothers, Monroe Malmay, Lawrence Malmay, and Earl Malmay; and sisters, Irene Sepulvado and Pearl Malmay. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jimmy Brewer; son, Patrick Brewer and wife, Karen; daughters, Mary Boyette and husband, Craig, and Elizabeth Brown and husband, Ted; grandchildren, David Boyette, Sally Franklin and husband, Cory, Laura Boyette, Austin Brewer, Emilie Brewer, Christopher Brown, Christina Brown, and Catherine Brown; great-granddaughter, Sophie Boyette; siblings, John W. Malmay, Alberta Raines, and Pauline Richardson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Theodore Brown, Craig Boyette, Patrick Brewer, Christopher Brown, David Boyette, and Austin Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Richardson, Pete Hawboldt and Tim Hawboldt.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association, Louisiana Chapter, 910 Pierremont Road, Suite 410, Shreveport, LA 71106.
