Amanda lived with daughter Harriet Grimshaw until she died. She told her children that she remembered as a child fearing that someone would come and take her father to war, she was only five when the Civil war started. She was only 4' 10" tall. James was a foot taller. They came to Oregon with Amanda's parents in March 1878 by way of San Francisco. They lived in Goldendale, Washington and Sheridan, Oregon, before they moved to Tacoma, Pierce County Washington. They farmed mostly, but he also built houses in Tacoma. He lost his business during the depression of 1893. They moved to Hermiston, Oregon and proved up on a homestead, called Circle "A" about 1903-5. The children, "Rete", "Twinkle", and Elsie went to Pendleton Academy in Pendleton, Oregon, about thirty miles away. His health was bad, so about 1922 they rented out the farm and moved to Seattle. Both buried Wrights Mausoleum, Seattle, King County Washington.
