Artist. The Royal Academy of Arts exhibited 55 of his paintings; The British Institution showed 57 and The Royal Society of British Artists hung 384. In Scotland and Ireland his pictures were shown at The Royal Scottish Academy, The Royal Hibernian Academy and The Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. After painting rural scenes, he specialised in maritime subjects, many showing the Kent coast near Folkestone. In 1834 his first painting, "Cottages near Southampton" was shown at The British Institution, while his last three: "Old Star at Newington, Kent, " "On the Coast, Entretat, Normandy" and "Trawler Going Out, Normandy" were shown at the RBA after being submitted by his widow. His work can be seen at The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich; Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield; The Wolverhampton Art Gallery and The Folkestone Museum. He was born in Lambeth and moved to Folkestone in the 1850s, living at 3 West Terrace. He died in his house "Belle Vue" in the Bayle, Folkestone.
