We are a group of volunteers, The Friends of Folkestone Cemetery, who are clearing and tidying the cemetery to make it looked more loved, while still trying to keep as many habitats for the wildlife as we can. We are also clearing ivy, brambles etc from grave stones and recording them, to make more of them available to researchers and family historians.
In May 2021 we completed our photography project. Every grave has either a photo or a note to say it is unmarked or shared. Shared graves have a later, unrelated burial in them and are very unlikely to have a stone.
We are usually at the cemetery on Saturday morning from 10.30 to about 1.30, meeting at the old chapel opposite the main gate. We may be able to point you in the right direction if you are visiting and want to find a grave, bearing in mind that we have just under 15,000 graves containing over 26,000 burials.
