Charles Conley Vinson, 93, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 at his home.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late John Baxter Vinson, Sr. and Mae Belle Conley Vinson of Franklin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Vinson and sisters, Emma Lou Erwin, Katherine Hamrick, Elizabeth Cearley and Mary Helen Gregory.
Charles was proud to serve in WWII with the Third Army in the 160th Engineer Combat Battalion. He attended NC State University for their agricultural program after discharge and was a life-long Wolfpack fan. Charles worked in Michigan in the '50s building transmissions and in Macon and Rabun Counties in construction in the '60s. Charles retired from Rabun Gap Nacoochee School in 1988 after 18 years of service in the maintenance department. Charles was active in Morrison Presbyterian Church since 1969, where he worked extensively to renovate the church building and served as both a deacon and elder on the session.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, his daughter, son-in-law, two granddaughters in Norway and two great granddaughters, Eva and Sanna; a brother in Franklin; and a great many nieces and nephews.

Charles enjoyed working with his hands - building things for others to enjoy and working outdoors in the garden. He loved children, laughter and hugs.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at Morrison Presbyterian Church, 511 Morrison Church Rd, Franklin, NC. Burial was in Rush Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 & the American Legion Post 108.
