Lonnie W. Jackson, age 71, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018.

Lonnie was born to Bonnie W. and Vergie E. Jackson December 27, 1946, in Moberly, MO. He grew up and attended elementary school in Bynumville, Missouri and graduated high school in New Cambria, Missouri in 1964.

He attended University of Missouri, Columbia, graduating with a BS in Elementary Education with an Art minor in 1968. His first position was in the George Washington Carver School in Fulton, MO, teaching 6th grade. After obtaining his Master’s degree in Administration he accepted a position as Principal of Keytesville R-III School District where he served from 1976 to 1994. Lonnie was Principal of Root Elementary School in Carrollton, MO from 1994 until his retirement in 2001 and then served at Carrollton Junior High School on a part-time basis for one year. In his role as an educator, Lonnie touched and impacted the lives of many students. He was admired and respected by the communities where he served.

Lonnie married Connie Wood in 1967 and two children were born to that union. In 1992, he and Debby Newman were joined in marriage and would have celebrated their 26th anniversary on the 22nd of July.

Lonnie was a wise, fair-minded, kind man with a sense of humor and a quick laugh. He was an excellent gardener and a lover of the outdoors. He spent many hours watching and feeding birds, building bird houses and caring for his dogs. He was an avid sports fan. He loved to watch college basketball, especially his alma mater, Mizzou. He enjoyed cooking and barbequing for his family.

Those preceding Lonnie in death were his parents; his sister Karen Hulett; his mother and father-in-law, Wendell and Martha Ware.

Surviving Lonnie is his wife Debby of the home; son Chris Jackson of Salisbury, MO; daughter Jill Ratliff and her husband Kent of Salisbury, MO; stepsons Cody Newman and his wife Melissa of Albany, MO and Jacob Newman and his wife Rachel of Oak Grove, MO; stepdaughters Heather Elder and her husband Lester of Jefferson City, MO and Hayley Fox and her husband Scott of Boonville, MO; grandchildren Sydney, Savannah and Clay Ratliff of Salisbury, MO, Cameron and Drew Jackson of Brunswick, MO, Levi and Tanner Elder of Jefferson City, MO, Gabby and Cade Newman of Albany, MO, Cale and Kinley Fox of Boonville, MO and Elyse Newman and Payton and Ava Whitaker of Oak Grove, MO. Also surviving is brother-in-law William Hulett of Chillicothe, MO; nieces Lynette Juresic and her husband John from Andover, KS, Jeanna Maley and her husband Steve from Wichita, KS, Karisa Huntley and her husband Tim from Mulvane, KS, and many more friends and family.

To honor the life of Lonnie Jackson, the family will receive guests from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, MO. All family and friends are welcome.
