Lucille Adams

Bonnie Lucille Adams, 94, of Lubbock TX passed away on January 17, 2018. She was born in Breckenridge, TX on August 24, 1923 to the late George T. Adams and Bedie M. Bockman Adams.
Lucille graduated from Lubbock High School and then received a Bachelors of Art in English in May 1946 and a Master's in Education in August 1948 from Texas Tech. She started her teaching career at Friendship ISD while she was pursuing her Masters. She taught in various capacities over the years with the majority of her tenure teaching 8th grade English at Smylie Wilson Middle School. Upon her retirement in 1979 her career in education was 33 years of service.
She was a member of Daughters of the Pioneers and National Education Association. She had a passion for her family and lots of great family fun in Lake Vallecito, CO. Lucille impacted the lives of thousands of people through her high standards of excellence and a strong desire to impart the rules of modern English. She was dedicated to serving her students as her family remembers her grading papers after hours and on the weekends so she could be more devoted to help her students to learn.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Marie Hughes, Georgia Mae Myers, and Mattie Sylvester, and a niece JoAnn Tatkenhorst. Left to cherish her memory are, Brother in law, Woodie Sylvester, 1st cousin, Bobbie Shaw, and over 75 nieces and nephews including great, great-great, and great-great- great nieces and nephews. They include the following families; Sammy and Gwen Sylvester, Jana and Dough Hale, Sue and Tommy Nabors, Kay and Walt White, Curt and Barbara Meyers, Tommy and Debbie Hughes, Al Tatkenhorst, Diana and Mark Layton, Jamie and Tom Worley, Mike and Tamara Stewart. Each of these families have multiple children that were positively impacted by Lucille. Other lives that Lucille touched include: Family… dozens upon dozens… Just like her mother did by loving and caring for so many of them Friends in Lubbock… she outlived most, if not all, of her closest friends Friends in Colorado…. Dozens of folks she knew intimately for 50 plus years Friends at the Mall Friends in TRS…went to the state Capitol on 2017 to march, protest and influence improvements in TRS. Her friend commended her for all she had done through TRS and really liked what she stood for. Students she taught… don't think she knew but her lawyer was one of her students
