Funeral services for Mattie Elizabeth Sylvester, a 90 year-old Weatherford, Okla., resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, Okla.

On Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, our loving wife, mother, and granny went to be with our Lord Jesus, which is better by far.

Mattie Elizabeth (Adams) Sylvester was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Ranger, Texas to George and Bedie Adams. Mattie married Woodie Sylvester on Aug. 9, 1938. They had three children, one son, Sam and two daughters Jana and Sue.

Mattie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was an active partner in the family theater business in Weatherford until retirement in 1980, a homemaker, and a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Weatherford. She was also active in P.E.O., American Legion Auxiliary , Pioneer Center, Bridge Club, quilting, and loved to travel. Mattie will be fondly remembered for her quilting, her pie making and her family Sunday dinners.

Mattie is survived by her husband, Woodie of 71 years, her son, Sam and wife Gwyn of Eufaula, two daughters, Jana and husband, Doug, Sue and husband, Tommy all of Weatherford; and one sister, Lucille Adams of Lubbock, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Travis Hale, Kim Burnham, Heather Messer, Jeff Sylvester, Chad Nabors, and Craig Nabors. Sixteen great grandchildren, including Lauren Sylvester, Trevor Crutchfield, Adam Sylvester, Andrew Sylvester, Austin Hale, Douglas Hale, Grayson Hale, Joseph Messer, Haley Messer, Brooke Messer, Taylor Messer, Ashley Nabors, Brandon Nabors, Neely Nabors, Atticus Nabors, Frannie Nabors, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to the "Forever Fund" at First Baptist Church Weatherford.
