Franklin Delano Thomas “Train Man”, 83 years of age of Grundy, VA went to his heavenly home, Thursday, July 12, 2018, peacefully in his sleep after battling a courageous battle with Congestive Heart failure. Born September 29, 1934 in Iaeger, WV he was the son of the late Doc and Sylvania Roberts Thomas.

He had a love for Jesus Christ like no other and was of the Christian faith and attended Stacy Church of God. He was a retired coal miner with thirty plus years of service. He was a well devoted family man, whom thought the world of his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Jerline Thomas; three sisters, Thelma Stover, Kat Turner, and Belva Winn; two brothers, JT Thomas and Arnold Thomas; and one great-great granddaughter, Madelynn Grace Arrington.

Those left to cherish his memories include his only son, Michael Leon Thomas and wife Charlotte of Grundy, VA; his ‘soon to be’ school teacher granddaughter whom was the “apple of his eye” Rhonda Gail Arrington and husband David of Grundy; four great grandchildren, Michael Arrington and fiancé Patsy of Grundy, VA, Stephanie Lester and husband Ray of Paynesville, WV, Brian Arrington and companion Savannah of Agusta, GA, and Kimberly Arrington of Jolo, WV. He is also survived by two great-great grandchildren, Alyssa and Dylan Rowe of Jolo, WV and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral service for Franklin Delano Thomas will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Monday, July 16, 2018 at 12:00 noon with Brother Larry Chaffins, Brother and Sister Mike and Evonne Ashby officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery on Stone Coal Rd in Grundy, VA.

Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Buchanan General Hospital 3rd Floor Staff, Buchanan General Home Health and Freda Powers for the special care that was given to Franklin.

The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy, Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with evenings services to begin at 7 p.m. both evenings.
