Madison is the son of Elizabeth Edwards from Claiborne,Tennessee and Henry Keck from Claiborne,Tennessee.

Matt had eleven brothers and sisters.

Matthew enlisted in the army in September 1861 at the age of 16 at London,Kentucky,he was a private in the 8th Kentucky Regiment Volunteers Infantry, Army of the Cumberland. Union Forces. He was wounded and taken prisoner,before this was known he was listed as a deserter. he was reported AWOL on 07 November 1862 to February 1863. Matt was later traded for confederate soldiers and given a Presidential Proclaimation overuling the desertion charge on 10 April 1863.
Madison was wounded in the leg during the Battle of Chickamaunga,Georgia 18-20 September 1863. He served four years and recieved a medal for serving in the Civil War.
Madison lost his father Henry and brother Joseph in the war.

Matthew Madison is my Great Great Great Grandfather.
