Hazel Marie Greenslade Beane was born in Kaufman, Texas, the fourth daughter of (Belton) Shaw Greenslade and Lassie Jane Hurley Greenslade. The family grew to ten children. They lived in Terrell for a time (1913) but moved back to Kaufman (1920).

She married Gilbert Arthur Beane on June 14, 1928, in Tulia, Texas. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and they moved around Texas. They retired in Chillicothe, Texas, and eventually moved to Sacramento, California where both their daughters lived.

She died on August 18, 2000, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 91, and was buried in Johnston, Oklahoma.
