John Russell Fox, 66, of Harrisonburg, passed away July 6, 2018, at his home fighting a battle with cancer. John was born in Baltimore and was raised by the late Homer and Virginia Mussetter.

He attended Clark County High School, where he was on the varsity football team. Upon moving to Harrisonburg, he attended Turner Ashby High School and later received his GED in 2007.

For several years, John was a truck driver for Dayton Transport, Harrisonburg Motor Express and also part- time for Blizzard Trucking. At the time of his death, he was a retired deputy for the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office. He was employed there for 10 ½ years, where his fellow deputies referred to him as " Papa Fox." He retired April 1, 2018.

John was involved in a variety of sports and activities. He bowled in a league for Blue Stone Inn and East Market Gulf. He also loved playing softball, playing cards with family, riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, camping and going antiquing with his wife. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he loved his beloved collie, Patches. John was a member of Pine Grove Church of the Brethren.

He leaves behind a wife of 47 years, Faye Hedrick Fox, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Theresa Landes and husband, Craig; his son, Jason Fox and wife, Jen; five grandchildren, Colton Landes, Camryn Landes, Savanah Fox, Taryn Landes and Landon Fox; a close sister-in-law, Mary Ann Blizzard and husband, Rick; sister-in-law, Tanya Shea; brothers- in-law, Joe Hedrick, Mark Hedrick and Brent Litten; as well as nieces, nephews and close cousins by marriage.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg from 5 to 7 p.m.

A celebration of John's life will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Scott Payne officiating. Burial will be private at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, officiated by Pastor Wayne Pence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN
