Lifetime resident Gene Othell Barnett was born April 30, 1933 to Claud and Levern (Langham) Barnett in Bristow, Oklahoma. He departed this life July 6, 2018 at the age of 85 years 2 months and 6 days.

A graduate of Bristow High School, Gene served his country in the 45th Infantry of the United States Armed Forces. On February 1, 1952, Amy Sue Tallent and Gene Barnett were united in marriage in Bristow. To this union were born four children, Patricia, Michael, Claudia and Gina.

Gene worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and then Assistant Postmaster, retiring after 32 years of employment. In his spare time, Gene was a professional “piddler” and loved being busy. He worked on appliances, mowers, or cars; anything broke down that had a motor on it. He loved the challenge. Gene also rode horses and enjoyed fishing. Gene, Amy Sue and their dog were known as “permanent fixtures” fishing at the Bristow Lake. As well, He was a twenty-five year volunteer for the Bristow Fire Department. Gene was also a member of the Advent Christian Church. Most of all, Gene loved his family and took pride in everything they did, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Saturdays were spent watching college football; he loved all the teams and could tell you the names of all coaches from each team along with everything about them. He was a big fan of OU and OSU.

Gene is survived by wife, Amy Sue of the Bristow home; four children, Patricia Sue Costello, Michael Barnett and wife Rhonie, Claudia Dial and husband, Dennis, and Gina Henshaw and husband Bill, all of Bristow; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
