Mrs. Ruth M. Goodman, 92, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:19 am Friday, July 6, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born August 18, 1925 in Galesburg the daughter of Sylvester and Guyomia Gash Paige. She married Lindell Goodman, Sr. on August 24, 1942 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2016.
Ruth is survived by her four sons, Lindell (Shirley) Goodman, Jr. of Midway City, Oklahoma, Claude (Linda) Goodman of Galesburg and Frank (Inger) Goodman of Carson, California and Dennis (Gwen) Bower of Chicago; four daughters, Mary Goodman of Galesburg, Linda (Jayson) Smith of Galesburg, Cynthia Taylor of Los Angeles, California and Gladys Goodman of Galesburg; one sister, Patricia (Alfonso, Sr.) Pugh of Galesburg; her daughter-in-law, Michelle Goodman of Galesburg; thirty-eight grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and a niece, Jacinta Paige-Newman of Victorville, California. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, David and Joseph; two brothers, Marvin and Willie and two grandsons, Brian Scott Goodman and David Goodman, Jr. and her great granddaughter, Danielle Smith.
Ruth was a homemaker. She had lived in California for nine years, but mostly lived in Galesburg. She attended Galesburg schools. Ruth was a very active member the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was on bowling and golf leagues in both Galesburg and California. She was a member of Bunker Links Golf course. Ruth was a pitcher for the ladies softball team at the Carver Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Harold Boyd and Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Thursday, at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
