Imogene Greene (Mansfield)
August 1, 1926 - July 2, 2018

Imogene Vernece Greene, daughter of Peter John and Rettie May Findley Brazeal, was born August 1, 1926 in Sanger, California, and departed this life on July 2, 2018 in her son’s home near Mansfield at the age of ninety-one years, eleven months and one day.

On January 30, 1945 she was united marriage to Denzil Chester “Chet” Greene and to this union two sons were born. Chet preceded her in death on January 31, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Terry Greene, 2 brothers, Walter Brazeal and Don Brazeal and his wife, Wilma, sister, Arletta Brazeal, great-nephew, Marc Brazeal and daughter-in-law, Jane Greene.

Imogene is survived by two sons, Jerry “Leon” Greene and wife, Melissa, of Lenexa, Kansas and Donald “Max” Greene and wife, Donna, of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Gary Greene and wife, Erin, Jennifer Morris and husband, Alan, all of Mansfield, Julie Crum of Atchison, Kansas and LeighAnn Siebert and husband, Ty, of Baldwin City, Kansas; nine great-grandchildren, Kailey, Lexie and Quincee Morris, Spencer, Sydnee and Sadee Greene, Caleb and Kyle Crum, and Payton Siebert; nieces, nephew, other relatives and many friends.

Imogene and Chet’s marriage didn’t start out like most. Chet was wounded in WWII during battle. He was brought back to the states and put on a train that took him to Topeka, Kansas Army Hospital. On a weekend pass, he traveled back to Mansfield to claim Imogene Brazeal as his wife. In those days, in Missouri, you had wait 3 days to get married and Chet didn’t have that many days off.

So with the blessings of Imogene’s dad, they went to Hardy, Arkansas and were married by the justice of the peace. A few days later they returned to Topeka, Kansas where Chet was receiving care in the hospital for his injuries. Imogene went to work in a flour mill during the day and after work would go to the hospital to see Chet. Chet was in the hospital for 16 months and after his release they returned to Mansfield and worked together on their dairy farm. Imogene started work as a cashier in 1957 at Richard Brothers grocery store and then to MFA Supermarket which later became Town & County. She worked as a cashier for 52 years before reluctantly retiring in 2009.

Imogene had made a profession of faith in Christ at a young age and was a longtime member of the Wolf Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

In her spare time she enjoyed cooking and being with the grandkids and great-grandkids.

Imogene was a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her long life and will always cherish the wonderful memories we had together. We want to say a special thank you to Traci Lee, Lavonne Overholt and Charlotte Jones who cared for “Imy” over the last 7 years.
