Robert Clyde Clear, Sr., 82, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 7, 2006. He was a 50-year Masonic member. He was a recipient of the Carnegie Hero Award, a past police commissioner at Neville Island, Pa. and head of the Democrat Party in Pittsburgh, Pa. Robert was a U.S. Army Medic serving in the liberation of the Philippines in World War II. He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Hallie Clear; brothers, John Floyd Clear, Frank Clear; sister, Helen Clear Fontaine. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Jane Barham Lloyd Clear; son, Robert C. Clear, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla J. and Frank McCune of Blain, Pa.; four grandchildren, Robert C. Clear III, Lucas Clear, Michael McCune and Megan Devereaux; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Clear Devereaux; brothers, Benton Clear of Vinton, Donald Clear of Pittsburgh, Pa., Paul Clear of Salem; sisters, Frances Rossillo of Charleston, S.C., Valarie Reynolds of Pittsburgh, Pa., Betty Blankenship of Northern, Calif.; also are a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, 10 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006, with the Rev. Don Baldwin officiating. Military Honors will be by V.F.W. Post #1264 and Masonic Rites by Vinton Masonic Lodge #204. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 982-2221.
